Rooster originally opened as a small cafe in downtown St. Louis, and it’s since grown to have two locations in the city, each with the capacity to seat hundreds. Rooster Downtown and Rooster South Grand, nestled in the Tower Grove neighborhood, feature patios for you to enjoy your meal outdoors. Rooster South Grand is also home to the Commissary for Baileys’ Restaurants, the St. Louis-based restaurant group that owns and operates both locations. The Commissary has an in-house bakery and butcher shop that produces the bread, dessert, and ice cream the restaurants serve.
Rooster prides itself on supporting its local community. It partners with local farms throughout Missouri and the Midwest to source fresh, ethically raised local meat, eggs, and produce as often as possible. It also has its own micro farm near Lafayette Square, managed by Baileys’ Restaurants, which grows herbs, produce, and flowers.
While the Rooster Downtown and Rooster South Grand menus may differ slightly, both restaurants serve a selection of European-style cafe fare. For a hearty breakfast, consider an egg scramble or one of the slingers with sausage, eggs, potatoes, gravy, and toast. Try the French toast or pancakes if you’re craving something sweet. Not sure what you’re in the mood to eat? Be sure to peruse the selection of sweet and savory crepes. Pair your meal with a cup of local coffee, a specialty cocktail, a boozy milkshake, or even a pint of craft beer.
Rooster Downtown Location: 1025 Washington St., St. Louis.
Brunch Hours: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
Rooster South Grand Location: 3150 S. Grand Blvd., St. Louis.
Brunch Hours: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
Polite Society
Polite Society is located in Lafayette Square. This restaurant embraces its place in this historic neighborhood with stylish but cozy decor. It features exposed brick walls, gorgeous archways, old books, and other trinkets throughout the restaurant, creating a one-of-a-kind ambiance perfect for a unique dining experience.
While the Polite Society brunch menu rotates often, it typically includes traditional brunch options like eggs Benedict, chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, and French toast. Other options consist of osso buco hash, breakfast burritos, breakfast sandwiches, or specialty burgers. Consider pairing your meal with one of the cocktail, beer, or wine offerings, and ask about the impressive wine list the restaurant offers.
Location: 1923 Park Ave., St. Louis.
Brunch Hours: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays.
Chris’ Pancake and Dining
Chris’ Pancake and Dining is a South City staple. Founded by the same family known for Bartolino’s restaurants throughout the city, Bart and Roseanne Saracino opened Chris’ in the late 1980s. They wanted to create a place focused on breakfast for families to enjoy, and they chose to specialize in pancakes. The restaurant’s success led to them opening Chris’ at the Docket in 2016, conveniently located inside the St. Louis University School of Law.
Both the Chris’ Pancake and Diningmenu and Chris’ at the Docket menu provide a superb choice of breakfast favorites. Options include award-winning pancakes, Belgian waffles, steak and eggs, omelets, eggs Benedict, breakfast burritos, and much more. The restaurants serve breakfast and brunch all day, but they also serve a variety of sandwiches and burgers.
Both locations also have plenty of tasty drink options to try. Pair your entree with local coffee, a bloody mary, or another cocktail, such as an Irish coffee or the RumChata Rush, which is RumChata and cold brew coffee combined and topped with cinnamon and whipped cream. If you’re in the mood for a mimosa, the restaurants have nearly a dozen to choose from, such as the Chris-Mosa, which includes a bottle of champagne and your choice of juice, or the Lemon Razz-Mosa, a bottle of champagne, raspberry lemonade, and limoncello.
Chris’ Watson Road Location: 5980 Southwest Ave., St. Louis.
Brunch Hours: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
Chris’ at the Docket Location: 100 N. Tucker Blvd., St. Louis.
Brunch Hours: 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Monday.
The Mud House
The Mud House is a cozy coffeehouse and cafe. Adorned with eclectic decor, this neighborhood coffee shop offers a
selection of high-quality beverages and light breakfast and brunch options. It provides indoor seating and some patio
seating in front of the shop.
The breakfast menu at the Mud House features an assortment of favorites, including sandwiches, slingers, brioche French
toast, and traditional breakfast platters. If you stop by later in the afternoon, lunch options include soup, salad, and
sandwich choices, and the cafe serves tasty pastries all day. One of the best things about the Mud House is its
designated vegan and vegetarian options, helping ensure everyone in your party can find something to eat.
The Mud House offers expansive beverage options. For brunch, consider one of the liquor options, such as a Bailey’s and
coffee or a mimosa. If you’re looking for a pick-me-up, consider one of the multiple espresso options, like a maple
spice latte or a lavender latte. Other drink options include cold brew beverages, teas, and lemonades.
Location: 2101 Cherokee St., St. Louis.
Hours: 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
