There are several Christmas-themed markets you can attend this year, but the Holiday Market at Tower Grove Park at the Pool Pavilion is for the season’s procrastinators. At this holiday market, check off some last-minute Christmas gifts just in time for the holidays. Or you can browse the market and get your last fills of festive cheer a few days before Christmas.
Then, after the holidays wrap up, you can attend the Winter Markets. These markets run from January to mid-March, every other Saturday. When you go to these markets, you can shop for fresh and local produce of breads, meats, vegetables, and fruits.

See Elf the Musical at the Fabulous Fox
Elf the Musical is a fun activity this winter and holiday season for all ages, especially if you have children. The musical follows the classic Christmas movie about an orphan boy, Buddy, who climbs into Santa’s toy bag on Christmas Eve and travels back to the North Pole, where elves raise him. Into his adult years, Buddy believes he’s an elf until he overhears that he’s not. He travels back to New York City to find and meet his father, where Buddy encounters all types of mischief.
You can enjoy the show at the Fabulous Fox, which opened back in 1929. This musical is the perfect way to get further into the holiday spirit, enjoy a winter evening with your friends and family members, and have some laughs while watching a theatrical performance of a holiday film. Use the theater’s website to reserve your tickets. Ticket prices vary based on the section and when you purchase them. Every age requires a ticket to get into the performance.
Show dates and time: Tuesday, Dec. 20 to Friday, Dec. 23, from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., and on Christmas Eve at 1 p.m.
Address: 527 N. Grand Blvd., St. Louis.
Go Ice Skating at Steinberg Skating Rink
This winter, go ice skating at Steinberg Skating Rink in Forest Park. The open skating winter season goes from Nov. 19, 2022, to March 1, 2023. If you don’t have your own ice skates, you don’t have to worry about it because skate rentals are available. And if you don’t know how to skate, that’s okay because you can pay for a tutor to help you improve your skills this winter. Keep an eye on the rink’s website and social media for weather-related updates if you’re planning on skating.
In addition to having fun skating with your friends on the ice, this skating rink offers bumper cars for a separate fee. Typically, the bumper car experience opens about one hour after the open skate starts. Each ride lasts about 10 minutes. Use the skating rink’s website to purchase tickets, either general admission for a day or a season pass. There are also locker rentals available for you to keep your personal items safe while you skate.
Open skating hours: Monday through Thursday from 1 to 10 p.m., Friday from 1 to 11 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Address: 400 Jefferson Drive, St. Louis.
Visit the Garden Glow at the Missouri Botanical Garden
Visit the Missouri Botanical Garden for the magical Garden Glow event. You can go with your friends or take your family to see the lights and visit Santa. The garden has over 2 million glimmering lights, which include traditional favorites and new festive experiences. You can have s’mores with your holiday drinks and plenty of great photo opportunities to keep as memories. On Wednesdays, from Nov. 23 to Dec. 14, children get a discounted admission price for Family Night.
Enhance your experience by adding fun, unique events to your Garden Glow tickets. One option is the Dine at Glow at the garden’s Sassafras restaurant. You don’t have to make a reservation for this dinner, but it’s on a first-come, first-served basis, and you must have a Garden Glow ticket. Each meal includes one entree meal and one fountain drink.
The second option you can do is the Private Fire Pits. You must reserve the fire pits 72 hours before your visit. Your rental time is one hour, from 6 to 7 p.m, and you have access to the private fire pit area with a maximum of 25 guests. Additionally, you must have a Garden Glow ticket to reserve a fire pit. Use the botanical garden’s website to purchase your tickets. There are differing prices for garden members and the general public, but parking is free for everyone.
