TIPS AND TRICKS FOR WASHING YOUR CAR - ST. LOUIS, MO

As the weather warms up, you might decide it's time to wash your vehicle in the driveway. Washing your car yourself can save you money, and can be a great way to spend a nice day outside.

Here at AutoCenters, we've put together a number of tips and tricks that will make washing your car yourself easier and much more effective. Try to remember these tips the next time you head outside with a bucket full of soapy water and you'll have the shiniest vehicle on the block!

  • Don't wait too long to wash it. You know your car needs a nice bath when neighborhood kids start writing "Wash Me" on the back of it. Don't let it get that far. Try to keep it cleaned and maintained regularly.

  • Use automotive-specific cleaning supplies. The soap and detergent that you use indoors won't be good for your vehicle's paint, so be sure to purchase a cleanser that's specific to vehicles.

  • Rinse before you wash. Loose dirt and other debris on your vehicle can scratch the paint if you try to wipe or wash it off while it's dry. Rinse your vehicle before you begin to scrub away.

  • Wash by moving your sponge lengthwise. If you rub the sponge in circles on the paint, you can create swirl marks.

  • Use a chamois or soft terry towel to dry it. If you let it air dry, you'll run the risk of water spots. You also don't want to use a cloth that will scratch the paint. Be sure the product you're using to dry it is soft and won't harm your car.

Washing your car is a great way to keep it clean, looking nice and in great shape. Allowing it to get too dirty isn't good for the vehicle, because debris and stains can discolor the paint job. Be sure to make an effort to keep your vehicle clean so that it will stay looking new for years to come!
