HOW TO PACK YOUR CAR THIS HOLIDAY SEASON - ST. LOUIS, MO

Now that the holiday season is upon us, you probably have a road trip or two planned. If you're driving the family over to grandma's house, or even going on a nice holiday vacation, you'll need to be mindful of how you pack your vehicle.

Loading up your car when you have a lot of passengers or cargo can be a challenge. Keeping everyone and everything safe should be your number one priority. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to ensure that your vehicle is packed efficiently, effectively and safely.

The staff at AutoCenters Nissan has put together a few handy tips for you to keep in mind as you load up your car this holiday season:

·         Plan ahead of time. Do you know everything you need to bring with you on your trip? It can help if you make a list, or gather all the cargo in one place before you begin.

·         Pack larger items on the bottom. The heavier items you're bringing should go on the bottom, as far forward in your trunk as possible to help with your vehicle's weight distribution.

·         Keep anything you need within reaching distance. It's dangerous to be digging around in your backseat or other cargo area while driving, so if you need something during your trip (like food, drinks, medicine and more), be sure it's one of the last things you pack and is in within arm's reach.

·         Be sure that any car seats for children are secure. This is always important for safety. Check to make sure your child's car seat is secure, and if you're traveling with pets, it's important to secure their safety harnesses or travel crates as well.

·         Don't impede the driver's vision. No matter how much cargo you need to bring along with you, you should never block the driver's view of the road behind him or her. The rear windshield should not be blocked at any time.

·         Make sure all items are secure. Your trunk should be closed and latched properly, and any items mounted on your roof rack need to be properly secured as well. Double check that everything is in place for safety.

Driving safely is important all year round, and in the bustle of the holidays, it's easy to let some things slip by. Before your trip, keep these tips in mind and you'll find that you're a much safer driver on the road.
