2022 Nissan Altima: Specs, Features, Trims

The 2022 Nissan Altima is the best of many worlds when it comes to the midsize sedan class. Between its affordability, fun personality, and impressive list of features, the new Altima is ready to impress and keep its passengers relaxed wherever it goes. Below, you'll find everything you need to know to decide if the 2022 Altima is the right model for you.

Trim Levels

As you search for your ideal 2022 Nissan Altima, you'll get to choose between six trim levels to find your perfect blend of price and features. The new Altima's trim levels are the S, SV, SR, SR Midnight Edition, SR VC-Turbo, and SL. If you don't want to move up too high on the trim level list but still want to take advantage of luxury-minded features, you can upgrade your SV and SR with premium packages that add several sought-after features.

Engine Options

Most 2022 Altimas come standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that outputs 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet with the front-wheel-drive setup or 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque with all-wheel drive.

Also available is a 2.0-liter variable compression turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers up to 248 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque with 93-octane fuel or 236 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque with 87-octane fuel.

Both of these engines are connected to continuously variable automatic transmissions. The new Altima gets up to 28 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway.

Performance

As we mentioned above, the 2022 Altima can be equipped with an all-wheel-drive system that improves both your handling around corners and your grip on slick surfaces. The entry-level Altima S doesn't have access to all-wheel drive. This is an intelligent all-wheel-drive system that constantly detects changes in the road to provide you with a performance style enhanced for your current situation. Other confidence-boosting performance systems include the hill start assist, intelligent trace control, and active ride control, which come with the Altima SV.

If you're looking for an exciting experience from your Altima, check out the SR. This model comes standard with paddle shifters that allow you to treat your automatic transmission as though it were a racer's manual. You can also upgrade this trim level with sport-tuned suspensions and steering systems.

You can bring your Altima closer to self-automation with the available ProPILOT assist features. This driver-assistance technology helps you maintain a set distance between you and the vehicle ahead, even bringing your sedan to a complete stop if needed. This adaptive cruise control system can also provide gentle steering adjustments to keep your Altima centered in its lane.

Interior

The Nissan Altima is a five-seater sedan that offers up to 100.6 cubic feet of passenger space for you to relax in. The trunk offers 15.9 cubic feet of cargo space for you to pack your gear and groceries. The new Altima gives you the choice between five interior color and material schemes: gray cloth, charcoal cloth, charcoal sport cloth with contrast stitching, gray leather, and charcoal leather.

You'll find standard heated seats and a heated steering wheel at the SL trim level, although heated seats can be added to the previous two. The SL also introduces dual-zone automatic climate control and rear air vents. The Platinum gives you more luxurious features such as an ambient cabin lighting system and an automatically dimming rearview mirror.

Entertainment Technology

The 2022 Altima gives you plenty of tech features to enhance your drive on each trim level. The Altima S comes with a 7-inch central touch screen that lets you stream audio from your phone via Bluetooth.

If you make your way up to the SV trim level, this screen becomes an 8-inch version that's compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. These programs allow you to access many of your favorite phone apps and features directly through your touch screen. The SV also gives you access to satellite radio and adds additional USB ports in the front and back roads. Choose the SL to enjoy a nine-speaker Bose sound system and an integrated navigation system.

Exterior

The new Altima gives you the option of one of nine paint colors, including fun options such as Scarlet Ember Tintcoat and the orange Sunset Drift ChromaFlair. If you want to give your Nissan Altima a dark edginess, opt for the Midnight Edition, which features black gloss paint for the wheels, grille, and other accents.

The Altima comes standard with 16-inch wheels, but 17- and 19-inch wheel options are available at higher trim levels. Choose the SV to get standard LED headlights. The SV's Premium Package adds a power sunroof and heated side mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators. The SR has dark and sporty exterior accents. The SL adds foglights.

Safety

The 2022 Altima was given the coveted IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award thanks to its list of conventional and advanced safety features. No matter which trim level you choose, you'll be able to boost your awareness of the road with the standard Safety Shield 360 systems, such as forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking system, lane-departure warning, driver attention warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. Add the Driver Assist Package or choose the SV trim level to get a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and rear automatic braking.
